Reader’s Question:

Is my car covered if my auto insurance lapses in  Vermont?

Scott

Bennington, VT

First of all, there is no grace period with car insurance. Normally if you do not pay then your insurance policy will terminate listed on your payment notice or expiration date from your auto insurance carrier. If you do not pay and your auto insurance lapses you do not have any insurance coverage. There is no grace period for you to be covered for you to obtain a new insurance policy or reinstate your insurance policy.

If possible do not let your car insurance lapse in Bennington. If it does and you are caught driving and was at-fault in an accident you will face penalties for operating uninsured vehicle and be held personally liable for the damages you have caused since you did not have any vehicle insurance in effect.

If you try to insure a vehicle in Arizona for your daughter attending school, the fact that the vehicle is registered in AZ does not permit you to use out of state insurance to cover it.
