Reader’s Question:

What does it by Youthful Offender Status in Vermont?

Ricky

Colchester, VT

A youth charged in an adult criminal proceeding in Vermont who is between the ages of ten and sixteen at the time of the violation may get treatment as a youthful offender. And in some cases in Vermont an individual that is sixteen or seventeen may also request to be granted the youthful offender status. If the individual is granted this status by a district court the case is transferred to the juvenile court.

In addition, in Vermont once a youth is awarded youthful offender status, that person is given a blended sentence in juvenile court; that is, the individual is adjudicated as a delinquent and sentenced as an adult at the same time, for the same violation. The adult sentence is suspended while the youth has the chance to successfully finish the conditions of the juvenile disposition.

To check what youthful offender status means in Vermont you can research your state’s law with regards to this term or contact an attorney or courthouse.

Reader’s Question:

Can I obtain auto insurance for another driver while excluding myself because I have a suspended license in Middlebury, Vermont?

Jeremy

Middlebury, VT

Insurance providers will typically not allow you to get insurance for another driver on your car while excluding yourself, due to your suspended license. There are some insurers though that will insure a car even if that person does not have insurable interest in the car.

Some insurance company has that type of insurance policy available. They may permit someone else to insure your car, but if you live in the same household with that person then they would not permit such a insurance policy to be written.

Reader’s Question:

Will a written warning raise my car insurance rates? Im from Colchester Vermont.

Bill

Colchester, VT

I believe that if you pay the fine then you are admitting your guilt to this conviction. You can admit guilt and pay the fine, but will not have to pay more for auto insurance in Colchester VT. If this is your first ticket since it is considered a minor offense and most insurance providers do not charge for it. Additionally, it may be that all you have to do is present your license and avoid having to pay a fine. It is likely that it was just a warning in which case the same would apply. If you refuse to do this, then you may also consider some other options.

Other options are: You may choose to fight this warning ticket in court and if you are successful then the violation will not appear on your driving record and you will not have to pay a higher car insurance rate. Other option that you may choose is by choosing to complete a driver improvement course.
